Adam Richard Sandler is an American comedic actor, musician, and producer. He was born on September 9, 1966 in Brooklyn, New York. Sandler’s career really began on NBC’s Saturday Night Live and now he has a very successful film career.

Beginnings

Sandler’s first televised performances came in the 1980’s with a small role on The Cosby Show. Sandler was in his mid-teens at this time and would perform at local comedy clubs. This began when he just jumped on stage one night at a club in Boston, Massachusettes. Dennis Miller, also a comedian, saw Sandler’s routine, and went straight to Saturday Night Live. SNL hired Sandler as a writer in 1990 and he began performing the next year. Before long, he had made a name for himself, and by 1995 he had left the show for bigger things.

Film Career

Adam Sandler’s first major role was as the star in Billy Madison. This film turned out to be more successful than was expected, as were his next string of comedies. These included: Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, The Replacements, and The Longest Yard. It was after the release of The Waterboy in 1998 that Sandler finally began being referred to as a superstar.

Although Sandler is known for his slapstick comedy and goofy humor and this comedy is grossing him $100 million plus per movie, he is beginning to take on more serious roles. Two of his most recent films, Punch-Drunk Love and Spanglish, have had him in a very serious role, and Punch-Drunk Love even got him nominated for a Golden Globe.

Private Life

Adam Sandler tends to keep his personal life fairly private, and not as much is known about him as is other celebrities. Sandler was born in Brooklyn but was raised in New Hampshire. He attended New York University and graduated in 1991 with a degree in fine arts. He is Jewish and is a member of the Republican Party and stays quite involved in Republican functions. In 2003, he married his current wife, model Jackie Titone.
