Yves Saint Laurent was born in Oran Algeria in 1936. He would become a fashion designer. Yves left home in at 17years old in order to work for the fashion designer Christian Dior.
Early career
When Christian Dior died in 1957, Yves was put in charge of the attempt to save the house of Dior from going under due to money problems. Yves was then 21 years of age. Then, he opened his own couture house with his lover and business partner in 1962. The couple broke up in the early 1970s but still remained business partners until Yves Saint Laurent retired in 1998.
His couture fashion house
The fashion house of Yves Saint Laurent made fashion trends out of the beatnik look, tweed suits, and high heeled boots. In 1966, the firm created a tuxedo suit that was labeled Le Smoking Suit. One of Yves fashion muses was Catherine Deneuve, a French actress. His fashion house also liked to create dresses and other fashion accessories.
His later life
Yves retired from the fashion business in 1998 and spent most of his time in Morocco. In 2002, due to poor health and a mixture of alcoholism and depression he and Gucci But, the Yves Saint Laurent brand of clothing because of Gucci. Yves Saint Laurent was the first fashion designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
