Venus (astrology)

From ArticleWorld

The planet second closest to the Sun, Venus is said to have a strong effect on worldly occurrences. It is the ruling planet for the zodiacs Taurus and Libra. Its name pays homage to the Roman Goddess of Love, Venus. Hence, it has been the symbol of love in astrology also.

Venus takes a total of 225 days to complete one revolution (zodiac orbit) and its maximum inclination from the sun is 47 degrees. It reigns over the second and seventh houses in the star chart. It is linked to the metal element in Chinese astrology.

Love, harmony, emotions, social interactions are all manifestations of Venus. It is feminine in nature and is often called the ‘queen of taste and of the arts’ because of her strong aesthetic sense.

Libra is the day sign (characterizing peace and sociable nature) and Taurus is the night sign (symbolizing material pleasure) for Venus. It also holds a key place in Pisces (denoting selflessness and tenderness). It is the harbinger of care, comfort, harmony and happiness to the opposite sex.

A well placed Venus indicates artistic inclinations and an interest in music, literature, theatre etc. It is intertwined with culture, charm, beauty and refinement. Such a position in a man’s natal chart is indicative of his faithful nature in a marital relationalship.

Mythology

According to olden mythology, Venus was strongly attracted to Mars, God of Battle. Nobody could fathom the reasons for this, as Venus was very loving and sensitive whereas Mars had a notoriously fierce nature. Venus is depicted as a charming princess as opposed to Mars who stands for youth and masculinity.

Health

The parts of the human body governed by Venus are nose, eyes, throat, kidneys, sexual organs, bladder etc. A bad Venus results in afflictions of such nature. The word ‘Venus’ is associated with ‘venereal’ diseases. Physical beauty is also believed to be the effect of this planet.
