The Toilet seat is defined as being the seat and lid of a toilet. Several designs and accessories have been experimented and are present in the world today. The most known is linked with the Japanese toilet, which is a combination of a toilet, a bidet and a dryer. It shows a heated seat. Other toilet seats may be electronically controlled to detect weight applied on them making some electric features unavailable if it is not detected.

Variety

Toilet seats come in numerous shapes, colors and with many possible features. They can be built out of porcelain, wood, steel or plastic with variations present based on the place they will be used in. This translates in differences between toilet seats designed for the household and those created for use in public restrooms. Metal toilets, mostly present in prisons, have a built in toilet seat to avoid dangerous use between inmates. A common problem appears strictly related to men. In American culture it is considered to be impolite for a man to leave the toilet seat up after urinating. This is mainly true in the case a person of the opposite sex is present in the house and does not apply with bachelors. Comedians have used the toilet seat in many gags and humorous settings. Toilet humour always implies a toilet seat joke. The most used picture is that of an individual exiting a restroom with the toilet seat hanging around his neck following an explosion.
