Sun (astrology)
From ArticleWorld
The position of the Sun is a focal point in the drafting of astrological star charts. It is usually centrally placed in the 12 houses of the horoscope which may be attributed to its position in the solar system.
The Sun is oft allied with royalty and it is the ruling sign for Leo (the lion - King of the Jungle). It is the most powerful in Aries and the weakest in Libra. It is said to emanate strength to all other planets, being the center of the solar system. In the natal chart, the sun is the regal ruler and the hero. It is usually located in the fifth house, the house of creativity, pleasure and might.
The characteristics of the sun are warmth, power, light, fiery, life-giving and dependable. These are the very qualities attributed to the sun in astrology. Eastern astrology regards it to be a positive force but the Westerners deem it evil.
The effects of an unaspected sun in a star chart may either be positive or the person may turn out to be egoistic and selfish. Precedent has it that people with such charts have been notably successful. One such example is that of King Louis XIV another being the celebrated painter Vincent Van Gogh.
History
In archaic times, sun was worshipped as a powerful God and this belief has been carried down the ages albeit with alterations. The Greek God Apollo symbolized the sun and stood for integrity, clarity of thought and justice. In Egypt the all-knowing sun god was called Ra. The Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu embodied life, hope and optimism. The Aztec symbol for the rising sun was a glorious eagle. Yang (positive energy) is symbolized by the sun in Chinese astrology.
