1925 is a year that is best remembered along history as the year when the first breakthroughs in television technology have been done. Another important event came in the publishing of Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”

Important dates

  • The existence of other galaxies, until then believed or not by scientists, was announced by Edwin Hubble on the first day of the year. Two days later Benito Mussolini took dictatorial power of Italy.
  • One of the most influent newspapers in America publishes its first issue on the 21st of February. It was named “The New Yorker”.
  • March 18 – A huge tornado hit three American States. Missouri, Indiana and Illinois were affected and the result was 695 people dieing and important economical loss in the regions affected.
  • June 1st – Florence and Percy Arrowsmith were married. The couple was to become famous in 2005, when they entered the Guinness Book of Records as the longest marriage and the oldest aggregate age of a couple that is married.
  • Walter Percy Chrysler founded what was to become one of the most powerful corporations in its field of activity. That company is The Chrysler Company and was established on June 6.
  • “The first public demonstration of radiovision" (As it was named by Charles Francis Jenkins) took place on the 13th of June. The result may not seem incredible as only 10 minutes of filmed material was broadcasted on a distance of just 5 miles. This was the foundation for public television.
  • “Mein Kampf” was published by Adolf Hitler on July 18.
  • One of the Wonders of the World was finished to dig out on December 26. The Sphinx was going to welcome billions of visitors since then.

Dates of Birth

The period between January and April 1925 saw the birth of many people that were to become important actors, directors, conductors and musicians. A French philosopher, Gilles Deleuze, was born on the 25th of January. The next day American actor Paul Newman also came into existence, followed by Dorothy Malone by four days. On February 20, Robert Alman, a very influential film director was born. The only famous figure that was born in the period was Romanian historian Eugen Weber, on the 24th of April.

Between May and July several people that were to make a mark in their field of activity were born. The most important ones were American actor Tony Curtis (June 3), musician Bill Haley (July 6) Joshua Lederberg (May 23) and Baruch S. Blumberg (July 28) – both winners of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The most notable personalities born between August and December are Norris and Ross McWhirter (both born on August 12 – they together founded the Guinness Book of Records), Boris Alexandrovich Tchaikovsky (September 10 – one of the most important Russian composers), Gene Mauch (November 18 – Baseball manager) and American Actress Gloria Malgarini (December 14).
