Sonopuncture

From ArticleWorld

A relatively new and rare system, sonopuncture uses sound signals on acupuncture points.

Development of sonopuncture

Sonopuncture is said to have been based on traditional Chinese medicine, and partly on New Age speculation involving the harmonic properties of outer space. It is not used by TCM practitioners from, or in, China. The technically accurate, but not widely used, terminology for sonopressure is phonophorese. Acutonics is a trademarked name that describes the same procedure.

Practice

Sonopuncture is painless; it can be used alone or with other therapies. Many believe that it works well with acupuncture. The goal is to harmonize a person to subtle energies within the universe.

Technically, one can use any sound-emitting device in sonopuncture, but the most common device is a tuning fork, which is traditionally used to tune instruments. Tuning forks used for sonopuncture are typically ones that are sold for this purpose and tuned in accordance with the physics and harmonics of our solar system. Other items used include Tibetan bowls, chimes and other musical instruments ore electronic devices.

Practitioners say that, if applied by a trained professional who understands TCM, sonophonics can be used in a manner similar to acupuncture.

Criticism

Many members of the conventional medicine community are not even aware of the existence of sonopuncture. When they are familiar with it, they reject it as a legitimate treatment for disease. They say that the claim, “tuning forks are tuned to the energies of the universe” has no scientific meaning whatsoever. Many claim that sonophonics is simply a pseudoscience.
