Suez is a French multinational company covering the needs of the world by offering Environmental services and deals in the field of supplying Energy. The operations consist mainly of supplying water, electricity and natural gas. Recently the company has forayed into the field of waste management.
History
Suez was the result of a merger in 1997 between Compagne de Suez and Lyonnaise des Eaux. It is one of the world’s oldest multinational companies, having one line of business dating back to 1822. The founder of the company was King Williams I of the Netherlands, he named the company, “Algemeene Nederlandsche Maatschappij ter begunstiging van de volksvlijt” literaly meaning General Dutch Company for the favouring of industry. The name of Suez is derived from one of the projects the company had primarily done at the time of constructing the Suez Canal. The company has gone through a lot of reorganisation and corporate mergers from the history of around 200 years.

- SUEZ Environment is a water and waste management company. The company supplies water to about 117.4 million people worldwide according to the “Masons Water Yearbook 2004/5”.
- SITA is a waste management company, helping the environment and the surroundings by proper waste solutions for a better tommorow.
• Degremont is a Water and Waste Water treatment engineering company. Its basic aim is to manufacture water treatment plants for the purification and filteration of water. It also manufacturs state of the art, technological advanced plants to manage the waste material as a result of the purification process.
