Naomi Campbell is widely recognized as one of the most popular supermodels of the 21st century. She was born on May 22, 1970 in London.

Career

Campbell began her modeling career in the late 1980’s via several print advertisements as well as her work on the fashion runway. She has posed for many layouts as well. Nude photographs of her appear in popular men’s magazine, Playboy. She also posed with pop culture icon, Madonna in a set of erotic lesbian-focused photographs in Madonna’s book, Sex. In addition to her modeling efforts, Naomi co-authored the book Swan and her own self-focused photo book aptly named Naomi. She produced a top-selling album entitled Baby Woman. It is a recorded effort most popular in Japan – selling over one million copies. She has appeared in several music videos as well and did additional voice work in Vanilla Ice’s hit Cool As Ice.

However her career has not always been a case of wine and roses. She is reported as having a quick temper and an unfailing arrogance about her. She has had several confrontations with the London tabloids and fans who tried to take her picture. The latter party would usually have their camera snatched away from them. In addition, it has also been reported that she has displayed violence, particularly verbal abuse, against her staff. She is pegged by many as being irate and at the very least, difficult to work with. She has had several run-ins with various celebrities, including fellow supermodels, Tyra Banks and Victoria Beckham. Naomi has since reconciled with both.

Tabloid Controversy

Naomi Campbell was pictured in the London tabloid The Daily Mirror leaving a “Narcotics Anonymous” location. The Mirror took issue with this as Campbell had, only a short time earlier, denied publicly ever having a drug problem. The Mirror argued that her recent clinic “visit” was a matter of public interest because of her denial. Campbell filed suit against the tabloid citing “invasion of privacy.” The Mirror had initially won the lawsuit in 2002, but in 2004 the decision was overturned to favor Campbell.
