Moon (astrology)
From ArticleWorld
According to Western Astrology, the Moon rules the zodiac of Cancer. It is believed to represent the emotional quotient of an individual. It also portrays the child within every individual. Personal habits are ruled by the moon.
The moon is the symbol of mother and overall of feminity. It also influence’s one’s perception of mother. For example, a Scorpion would always think of his mother as possessing similar characteristics even though this may not be the case.
The singular angle relationships or ‘aspects’ of the moon with other planets and the ‘transits’ made with moving planets all affect a person’s everyday life. Astrology assumes the earth to be stationary and everything else as moving. It also assumes that the sun and moon are equal in size (proved by a total solar eclipse).
The moon is associated with approachability and vulnerability. It is responsive in nature. Just as the moon reflects sun’s light, it also is a measure of one’s reflective inclinations. The sun’s rationality is counteracted by the moon’s irrational nature. Spontaneity of thought is also governed by the moon.
The moon has varying levels of influence depending on a person’s zodiac and element. The effect of the moon is particularly strong when it is present in one of the Water signs i.e. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
In Astrology for the Millions, Lewis Grant remarked, “Whatever you feel is most deeply yourself, whether or not you are able to do anything about it in the outer world, is the product of your Moon and of the sign your Moon occupies at birth.”
In Chinese cosmogony, the moon is a definite feminine sign. This may be attributed to the fact the lunar cycle of about 28 – 29 days corresponds to a woman’s menstrual cycle.
The moon is characterized by a vivid imagination, a creative bent of mind and a keen sense of intuition. It governs a person’s reactions to his environment.
