James Blunt

From ArticleWorld

James Blunt is an English musician and singer that became popular in 2005 with his album, “Back to Bedlam.” He was born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England in February of 1974. He is a contemporary artist that has been compared to early Elton John. He mixes jazz with soul in his music and plays many instruments including piano, guitar and organ. He served in the British Army and was promoted to Captain. He also served as a NATO peacekeeper in Kosovo.

Singer

Blunt’s first single, “High”, had a mediocre beginning. It failed to hit in the top 100 of the UK Singles Chart. However, it became a “commercial” success when the song appeared in a Vodaphone commercial in Italy. The song skyrocketed to the top ten. His second single, “Wisemen”, peaked at #44. He wouldn’t breakout until his third single, “You’re Beautiful”, hit the airways. It debuted at #12 and hit #1 within six weeks. His album, “Back to Bedlam”, also grew steam. It hit the #1 position in the UK knocking out Coldplay’s record breaking “X & Y.” Once the song was releases in the United States in the fall of 2005, it secured spots in three top ten spots: Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40 and Adult Alternative.

Critics

Though Blunt has many fans and his record is a number one seller, he still has critics. One newspaper claims he is three years older than he says. Some have said that he is so ordinary that he is a molded commercial act rather than a true heartfelt singer and musician and that his music is for “bored housewives.” They have said that his lyrics are unimaginative with no emotion or meaning behind any of them.
