Jacuzzi is a company that produces whirlpool bathtubs and spas. Its first product was a bath with massaging jets, and the trademarked name is commonly misused to refer to any bath, hot tub, or spa with water jets.

History

Famiy history helped pave the way. Shortly after immigrating to the United States, the seven Jacuzzi brothers were responsible for several innovations in airplanes. Their experience with airplane pumps led to a new design for a much needed water pump design, for use by the agricultural community. This, along with a suffering family member, led to ideas and development of an in-home hydrotherapy system In 1956, the Jacuzzi J-300 pump was invented by a man in hopes of relieving his son from some of the discomfort of rheumatoid arthritis. The son, Kenneth Jacuzzi, went on to run the company. Jack Benny was the spokesperson for Jacuzzi during the early years. In 1968, the ‘’Roman Bathtub’’, the first self-contained whirlpool bath, was invented by Roy Jacuzzi, a third generation family member. In 1970, the first outdoor hot tub hit the market. Moving into the 1980s, the company's product line expanded with models that had multi-use configurations and worked as hot tubs, whirlpool baths, or both. These models could be installed indoors, outdoors, or on the topside of luxury water craft. In the early 90’s, Roy Jacuzzi was inducted intot he National Kitchen & Bath Hall of Fame. Today, Jacuzzi is the world's most widely recognized, and largest selling, name in jetted baths and spas.
