Do you want to win an eating contest? This can be great fun, and it’s not very difficult. You can taste victory with a few simple tips.

Method

Be sure that you are well. People who are already unhealthy can make themselves worse with physical endurance tests (this is what this is). If you are taking medication, make sure that none of the food you will eat will interact with it and make you ill.

There should be some sort of medical supervision of the contest, such as a doctor or the St John’s Ambulance. This is just in case of choking.

Eat regularly before the competition. Not eating in order to work up a bigger appetite will not succeed. You should eat small meals often, even on the day of the competition (though not immediately before, that will fill you up).

Exercise in the weeks before the contest. Exercise improves your metabolism, and aids your digestion.

In the last hours before the contest, try to drink as little as possible. Liquid fills the stomach, and you will need that space for foods. Don’t let yourself dehydrate, though.

When you’re full, you’re full. Don’t carry on trying to make yourself eat, as this can make you choke, or even vomit. The stomach will be digesting the food you ate at the start, and when you overload this stomach this can be pushed into the oesophagus and make you ill.

Safety

Don’t starve yourself before the contest. This will not increase your appetite, and your body needs regular meals in order to stay healthy.

If you start to feel sick, stop. Stomach acid is never a pleasant taste, and it can seep back into your airway and make you choke. This is why there are medics present.
