How to use a power slide to stop a mountainboard

From ArticleWorld

Sometimes it is necessary to use a powerslide to stop a mountainboard. If a trick has gone wrong, or you need to stop the mountainboard instantly for any reason, the powerslide is the best and safest way.

method

  • Riding quickly on a rough surface, and making certain that your foot straps are nice and tight, get into a crouch position. Remember to keep your balance.
  • As quickly as you can, put all your weight on your front foot, and at the same time press down very hard with your heels. Your basic intent is to take as much weight as possible off of the back wheels. They slide out, and this causes you to skid and stop.
  • Grab the side of the board nearest the heel
  • Perform all of these actions at once, and your board should skid to a halt.

Hints

  • As with most board sports, you have to hug the ground and carve hard to get a decent stop.
  • If you start to turn, not skid, try sticking your hand down and pushing harder on your heels.
  • Be sure to push your whole body into the skid. It can be difficult to do and not overbalance, but otherwise the skid will not work.
  • Practice. The only way that any board manoeuvre can be done smoothly and safely is to do it again and again.
  • The powerslide stop is sometimes taught as a prelude to advanced turns. It is worth your while, therefore, to practice.
