When you go to your favorite restaurant, nobody ever gives a second thought to the wait staff. It is just a given that they will take your order and serve your dinner all with a smile on their face. Have you ever thought what goes on in between?

• A day in the life of a waiter is long, and tiring. Yes, they are taking your order, and serving it to you, but in between, they are doing the same for up to twenty other tables. That's is not twenty people, that is twenty tables that have two or more people to a table. The waiters do this for up to ten hours per day. Constantly smiling and making pleasant conversation with their customers, while they are probably suffering from sore backs and feet.

Workload Doubled

When the holidays roll around, the workload is increased and with holiday stress, some customers are not very pleasant.

• A good waiter does not let anything interfere with their ability to make the customer feel comfortable and enjoy a wonderful meal in a soothing atmosphere.

• The waiters are often forgotten around the holidays when they should be rewarded for all of their hard work all year round.
• A good rule of thumb is to tip your tip your waiter double the standard rate.
