How to land a parkour jump

From ArticleWorld

When you play an extreme sport like Parkour you have to know how to land a jump. Jumping over things is a necessary skill, even for beginners, and something that every participant should practice.

method

  • As always, when you jump, look where you are going. Keep your eyes forward. Once you have committed to the jump, it’s too late to worry about the landing.
  • As you jump up, bring your knees close to your chest. The reason for this is to improve your posture, and ensure that you are in a good position for landing. The knees is this position are also a ready to take the impact of a jump.
  • Raise your hands to stabilise yourself. Prepare to smack the floor with them once you land.
  • Land on the front part of your foot. Be careful not to twist the foot as you land, since this can break bones.
  • As soon as your feet touch the surface, bend into the impact with your knees, and slap your hands onto the ground. When all this is done at the same time, the impact of the shock should be redirected into the floor.

hints

  • Don’t perform this landing if you are moving forward. That sort of jump produces momentum, and if you slap your hands to a surface that is going away from you, you will be hurt.
  • If you are moving forward, a landing roll is the correct way of coming down from the jump.
  • This is not a set method of performing the jump. Instead, practice this landing at ground level before you start using it during parkour. All sports take practice, and you should be sure of your abilities before you take these things into play.
  • Remember Parkour is an art as well as a sport. Think of yourself moving freely. Fluidity is an important aspect of parkour.
  • Take care. Look before you leap literally, and always be sure that you can land safely.
