How to begin snowboarding

From ArticleWorld

Snowboarding is very popular, and people are keen to learn this sport, perhaps due to its standing as an Olympic sport. First timers can be left disappointed, as it is not easy, but here you can read how to make it better second time around.

Method

Find a hill that isn’t too steep. A gentle slope can be a good introduction to snowboarding, without you having to meet A&E as well.

Go to the edge, and put your boot in the binding before you slide down the hill. Be sure this binding is tight; you shouldn’t be able to move your foot about too much.

Push yourself off the hill. You should begin sliding down. Crouch, so that you are balanced, and try slowing down. Press down on your heels, so that your board is denting the snow. You should find yourself slowing down.

At the bottom of the hill, you should be going slowly enough to try your first turn. Stop pushing down and the board should start moving to the side. Point yourself at the chairlift, and take off your binding. Use your foot to push the snowboard, as though you were ‘skating’.

Go back up to the top, and do it again.

Hints

Take lessons. Get someone to teach you to turn correctly, you only have one neck: don’t break it.

When you fall, try and go backwards. When you feel as if you are about to fall, try and get near the ground. Do not start out low, as this will unbalance you, but if you are going to fall anyway, try and make it as short a drop as possible. Also, be sure not to put out your hands, as you can break your wrist or even your arm.

Wear protective clothing.
