How to be more polite to people

From ArticleWorld

To Be More Polite to People and have social regard for them can win you friends and make you a popular person. In today’ world, manners and politeness have become scarce and we have forgotten the meaning of common courtesy and thoughtfulness. A simple smile works wonders and a small act of kindness makes not only others happy but also brings happiness in our own lives. It is never too late to begin. Here’s how.

A few pointers

  1. Be nice to people, generally. Give help to help someone who requires it, remember by helping them and making them happy, you are also making yourself happy and in the long run helping yourself.
  2. Be polite to everyone, even to people who are not polite to you and you might find that they are nice to you in return.
  3. Let helping strangers come naturally to you. Assisting people in carrying heavy parcels or offering your arm to someone who has difficulty in walking or climbing stairs is a good way to start. Remember a good deed always comes round and someday you could be in need of help and a complete stranger could come forward with an offer to lend a hand.
  4. Stay back after a party or get together and offer to help the host clear up. It may take just a few minutes of your time but to a person who is tired the help comes as heaven sent.
  5. Teach children to write thank-you notes, make get-well cards for sick relatives and to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and ‘good-bye’ to someone who is leaving.

Do’s

  • Compliment people on their looks, or dress or their cooking, a sincere compliment is always appreciated.

Don’ts

  • Don’t talk about people behind their back, malicious gossip is very hurtful, especially to people against whom it is aimed.
