Some suggestions
- Have a positive attitude towards life. This is the foremost requirement of being happy and cheerful. Don’t get bogged down by unimportant things and the short term goals of life; be concerned with the larger picture.
- Be happy with what you are and what you have and make the best of your good qualities.
- Don’t ever hesitate to help someone who requires it. Remember, by helping them you are also helping yourself.
- Listen; it is the forgotten art of conversation. Encourage people to talk and give advice only if asked for.
- Be polite, even in the face of rudeness, it will serve you better than losing your temper and regretting later.

Do’s
- Be honest with yourself and look on the bright side of things.
- Believe in the silver lining to the dark cloud and remember to count your blessings. However bad things may seem there is always hope and reason to be thankful for the things that you do have.
- Learn to smile, as often as possible but with warmth and sincerity.
- Bring to your cheerfulness the quality that makes people feel content and peaceful.

Don’ts
- Don’t judge callously. Keep an open mind and try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes.
- Be cheerful but not a stand up comic. Learn to strike the right balance between being friendly and going over the top or between being dignified and being a snob. It seems like a tall order but hard work brings everything within reach.
