How to be a friend but not have people walk all over you
From ArticleWorld
To Be a Friend but Not Have People Walk All over You is not very difficult if you have confidence in yourself and your worth. You should not have so little faith in yourself that you need to bend over backwards to have friends and keep their friendship. Then again you should also not be offensive, so you need to know how to be popular without being meek and well liked without being spiteful. Here are some hints for you.

A few suggestions
- Have friends who are really close to you and for whom you can go that extra mile but take care that they do not take advantage of you and this trait of yours. You might be a softy and think that you are helping them in their need but in reality they might be laughing at you behind your back for having you at their beck and call.
- Don’t ever bend over backwards and become a ‘doormat’ to your friends. They might have you around for your usefulness but they are not really your friends. Have the guts to say no and walk out when you think that you are being used.
- Develop the confidence to have people depend on you and come to you in their time of need. They should come not to ask you to run errands for them but because they need advice and help.
- Take the decisions when you find others dithering and passing the buck. Remember that this will make your friends look up at you as their leader.
- Take responsibility without shirking and look people in the eye when you speak to them.

Do’s
- If your friend misses school for a day call her/ him up or go over to their house to find out what is wrong. They would appreciate your care and attention.
- Always keep clean and well spruced up. A slovenly dressed person rarely demands confidence.

Don’ts
- Don’t hang around a group of people who only suffer your presence to use you. You cannot be so in need of friends. Instead, get up, get out and go and find yourself some real friends.
