Frog legs are a part of both French and Chinese cuisine. They are also eaten in parts of the Caribbean and in the Alento region of Portugal. Frog legs are also eaten in some parts of the United States such as Louisiana. All types of frogs are not used in creating a dish of frog’s legs. A frog called an edible frog is usually used when creating frog legs. Frog legs are considered an exotic cuisine but people describe their taste as tasting just like chicken.

French cuisine frog legs

English speaking parts of the world consider frog legs to be a French dish. And, a derogatory name for the French used by Americans is frogs. Despite, this used for the word frog, frog legs are a rare delicacy in France and is more common in the French speaking area of Louisiana, especially the Cajun areas of New Orleans. Frog legs were introduced to the people of New Orleans by Donat Pucheu. Only the upper joint of the frog’s hind leg is served. Frogs legs can be prepared fried, deep fried, breaded, or not breaded. The flavor and texture of frog legs is between turkey, chicken, and lobster.

Chinese cuisine

In Chinese cuisine, frog legs are generally stir fried and coated with light spices. They are also eaten right off the bone. Frog legs are not usually found on Chinese restaurant menus. But, frog legs are popular in Chinese homes.
