Facial rejuvenation

From ArticleWorld

Facial rejuvenation is the use of any cosmetic or medical procedure that is used in an attempt to restore the youthful appearance of the face. The procedure can be medical, using topical agents, surgical (using various techniques) or quasi-surgical, using injections or abrasive procedures to change the appearance of the face.

Surgical approaches

There are multiple surgical procedures that may restore a youthful appearance to the face. An eyebrow lift opens the eyes, along with the removal of bags under the eyes. The eyelids themselves can be surgically lifted. A chin lift can reduce the appearance of a double chin. Liposuction can remove the extra fat beneath the chin. Surgery can also remove age spots and pull the entirety of the upper face toward both temples, removing extra tissue in the process. Sometimes, surgery to the nose helps as well.

Non-surgical approaches

Non-surgical approaches to facial rejuvenation include the application of a chemical peel that removes the upper layers of epidermis and removes fine wrinkles wherever it is applied. Some gentler creams can achieve over time what a chemical peel achieves in one application. Dermabrasion is the use of an abrasive procedure that smoothes the skin and removes superficial aging spots. Laser therapy is a method by which unsightly facial hair can be removed in a non-surgical way.

Quasi-surgical approaches

Some approaches to facial rejuvenation are neither topical nor are they truly surgical. Botox injections to key areas of the face are injections of small amounts of botulinum toxin into the muscles around the mouth and eyes. If done correctly, the toxin paralyzes the muscles that contribute to the visualization of wrinkles.

Collagen injections can be used in several places on the face. When injected into the lips, the lips appear fuller and more youthful. Collagen is sometimes used in places where depressions are seen near the cheekbones. Collagen can heighten the cheekbones and fill in areas where wrinkles are more obvious.
