Coffee filter

From ArticleWorld

A coffee filter is a commonly used device to prepare the particular coffee drunk in South India. It consists of two stainless steel stackable metal cups, the upper one with a perforated bottom and a lid. The top cup contains a varying amount of very fine ground coffee powder, and is sometimes as much as half-full. It is then filled to the brim with boiling water and covered. The water slowly percolates through the powder and into the lower cup. The liquid at the bottom is commonly called 'decoction', and is then mixed with hot milk, and even hot water if a weaker cup of coffee is desired.

Coffee filter can also refer to the paper or mesh filter inserts in drip coffee machines.
