Clergy is a term used to describe any formal religious leadership within a religion. Clergy usually take care of the ritual aspects of a religion. Their life is a religious life whether it's to teach or help and spreading the religions doctrine and practices. The often deal with life events such as childbirth, baptism, circumcision, coming age ceremonies, and marriage. They also deal with death.

Clergy of most rates work both inside and outside the religious domiciles of worship. They can be found in hospitals, nursing homes, army, missions, and even in locations where their ethnic origin is not allowed.

Clergy and theologians

There is a major difference between a clergyman and a theologian. Theologians are scholars of religion and the philosophy of religion. Theologians are not always clergy, for their main reason in religion is to study the hard facts and concepts to the religion and spirituality. The two fields often can overlap, in some religions clergy status is solely for males. And other religions a clergy can be either gender.

In many countries, clergy are protected by special logs. Clergy are financed sometimes, by the state. In most cases, however, they are financially supported by donations of the individual members of their religion. In Christianity, there is a whole range of possible positions in the area of clergy, such as: deacons, Bishops, ministers, and priests.

In many religions, it is the clergy that is responsible for not only giving spiritual advice, but also in guiding those that are of his religion. Many clergy view this as not a burden that is part of their role in that divine purpose of life.
