Child art is defined as drawings, paintings, sculptures, and other artistic works created by children under 12 years of age. As children develop, there art knowledge and talent develops with the help of many stages. Here are some stages of children art.

The beginning of art for a child

At about their first birthday, children can hold a crayon pen, or pencil and they love to do it. They start out their artistic creativity by scribbling. Children love to see their creations on paper. Children love body painting; therefore, they tend to smear paint and clay on their faces. Children also like to create patterns like crosses and triangles. The drawing of patterns usually begins by their second birthday. Children also love to arrange small objects, like marbles around this age.

Symbolism from a child’s viewpoint

In the symbolism stage of child art, children create a vocabulary of imagines. Therefore, when children draw pictures of dogs, they will draw the same image. Each child creates his or her own set of images that are based on their understanding of what needs to be drawn. It is at this stage that cultural influences become very important. Children draw from life and from the world they see around them. They also copy from cartoons and they realize that pictures can tell stories.

Reality sets in for children

With the realism stage of art, children can become angry because of the dreams for the creation of art is bigger than the ability of art and the knowledge of art. At this stage, some kids quit creating and drawing art. However, some kids become very knowledgeable and skilled at art and this is the time when formal artistic training helps children the most.

Art therapy helps kids deal with life

Art therapy can be a great way for kids to develop and connect with their emotions. Some kids with disabilities use art therapy to help express emotions that are hard for them to illustrate to other people. To help me deal with my emotions and feelings, I played with play-doh when I was little.
