Chicken nugget

From ArticleWorld

Chicken nuggets have been the center of a lot of attention due to the methods that they are created and the manner of chicken meat that is used in their creation. PETA has been involved in the opposition of the nuggets consumption due to the fear that the chickens that are used in the creation of this food may not be treated nearly as well as general poultry that is used for other foods.

There has also been a campaign that was headed by Jamie Oliver against Junk Foods such as chicken nuggets with the hopes of shocking children from wanting to eat these nuggets again.

The chicken meat

The chicken meat that is used in making the nuggets is not one piece but a compilation of minced meat or skin. There have also been instances where the meat is actually a slurry that is compressed into a nugget shape. In many cases, the meat is mechanically recovered and injected with additives like polydimethylsiloxane as an means of keeping the meat in one compressed piece. The meat in a nugget lacks texture, but is usually rich in flavor.

The nuggets normally have a high level of skin in them to help keep the shape and to keep the piece from breaking up. This is due to the sticky material in the skin itself.

McDonalds

McDonalds was probably the one that made the chicken nuggets truly famous when they introduced the Chicken McNugget. This was using the meat listed above and lightly coating the meat in a batter or sometimes in a breadcrumb composite. They would then deep fry the nuggets in oil. As of late, McDonalds has begun in to use canola oil in the hopes of making the nuggets more health centered. This started in Austrailia and has begun to be widespread with all of their restaurants.

Birth of a nugget

The nugget was invented in the 1950s by a food science professor at Cornell University. It is a wonder if he thought his little creation would become an international treat.
