The urinary system is responsible for the removal of some of the body’s waste products, salts and water. The kidneys filter the blood and stabilize the salts, water and acidity of the blood. The kidneys produce urine and collect it in the renal pelvis, a funnel-shaped tube that sends the urine through a pair of ureters to the bladder. The bladder stores the urine until the urge to urinate exists. Finally, muscles in the bladder contract, the distal sphincters open and urine is expelled to the outside via the urethra.
