A tool is any object, physical or conceptual, that helps mechanically build, repair, or improve another object, or help accomplish a certain task. Many tools could be applied to the same problem, and a single tool could have many components. A hammer, inclined plane, and lever are each simple tools conceptually, but embody princples that are used in many other devices. Algorithm tables, exemplars, and computer programs are examples of conceptual tools. Although tools were inacurately thought to mark the break between humans and animals, the development of various simple tools remain key moments in the evolution of humankind.
