Stars are large bodies of plasma in outer space that produce energy through nuclear fusion. The star closest to the Earth is the Sun. Stars emit light and do not reflect as seen with planets. Stars are not identical and differ in mass, composition and age. A stars age can be determined by its composition and pattern of the temperature of stars against their absolute magnitude. Initially the star is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium with trace amounts of other heavier elements but through its evolution a portion of the hydrogen is converted to heavier elements by nuclear fusion.
