From ArticleWorld
The respiratory system is that part of the body that inhales oxygen-rich air, exchanges oxygen from the alveoli of the lungs with carbon dioxide, which is then exhaled from the body. The complex respiratory system involves the nose that traps larger particles of debris from the air, the pharynx that directs air downward toward the vocal cords and the trachea. In the thorax of the body, the trachea branches into two mainstem bronchi which further divide into smaller and smaller segments until the air ends in the alveoli, where gases are exchanged.
