The President of Egypt is the Head of State of the Arab Republic of Egypt by election. Executive authority of the state is vested in the President. Egyptian Constitution states that the President also acts as the Higher Commander of the Armed Forces. In June 1953 Muhammed Naguib became the first president of Egypt after the revolution. He was shortly removed from power and his successor Gamal Abdel Nasser seized power in 1956. The fourth and current President is Hosni Mubarak who is in office since 1981.
