Physiology is the medical and scientific study of how living organisms function and how they adapt under various stressors. Understanding human physiology is vital to knowing how diseases like cancer are created and how various pharmacological interventions might help. Physiology also deals with how the body moves and how various parts of the body function or bear weight. Most physiology is studied in a laboratory under controlled conditions until the basic principles are well understood. This research is then used to further the practice of medicine, physiatry, sports-related medicine and pharmacology.
