From ArticleWorld

The mouth is the first part of the body that food enters into for ingestion. It also can be the first area, along with the nose, to receive oxygenated air during breathing. The major parts of the mouth are the lips, the tongue, the teeth and the hard palate. In babies, the mouth’s sensory capabilities are useful for exploring objects. In others, the mouth is involved in articulating words, in chewing food and, via the tongue, in the sensation of taste.
