Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday. Sometimes it is known as Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday and is the last day of the Carnival. Occuring between February 3 and March 9, the most important celebration of Mardi Gras are held in Venice, Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans and Bahia. The celebration is also held before the opening of the Christian liturgical season of Lent. In Poland, a common mistake is to confuse Mardi Gras with Fat Thursday.
