Low-cost airlines (also named low-cost carriers) are airlines charging low fares. It is made possible by cutting costs and suppressing traditional passenger services. For instance a business model can include a single passenger class, only one type of airplane, a simplified route or the usage of employees for more than one job. Pacific Southwest Airlines was the first successful low-cost airline. Its first flight was recorded on the 6th of May 1949.
