Disco is defined as being a musical genre that originated in discotheques and clubs. Disco music takes in elements from funk, salsa, soul music, Latin and Hispanic influences. The genre appeared in the early seventies and caused a movement that made the decade known as "Disco Years". The first authentic disco songs were released in 1973 although the first such record is considered to be Soul Makossa (1972) by Manu Dibango.
