Clinical psychology is the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders as well as research into their causes. It is the application of psychology in the use of psychotherapies or the use of psychological tests. Those clinical psychologists specializing in the assessment and treatment of brain injury and neurocognitive deficits are called clinical neuropsychologists. The discipline began with the work of Freud in the early 20th century.
