Chromosomes contain DNA, the molecule of inheritance. DNA is composed of genes which handle all the activities of the cell. During nuclear division chromatin condenses into tightly coiled threads and these are called chromosomes. Sister chromosomes are attached at a region known as the centromere. Each chromosome has two arms, a longer and a shorter one, respectively called, the q and p arms.
