A carnival is a public parade or ceremony that combines elements from public street parties and circuses. Such an event is usually linked with religious events. Many carnivals take place during the Carnival Season, which is a holiday period. It lasts for two weeks before the Christian fasting of Lent. The end of the ceremonies is marked by Mardi Gras on the day before Ash Wednesday. In different countries the Carnival Season can last until the first weekend of Lent.
