An assault is an act of violence or a crime against another individual. In some parts of the world the term is used to define the action of physically harming an individual while in others it is just the threat it. The word battery becomes a synonym as it defines in some countries the act of assault in others. An assault does not necessarily need to be violence but any physical contact with an individual, without his consent is also considered to be such a crime.
