Alternative medical systems is a NCCAM classivication for forms of alternative medicine that are built using a complete system and theory of practice. Alternative medical systems denote diagnostic and treatment methods with theoretical bases and techniques that extend beyond generally accepted conventional medical methods.
Some alternative medical systems include the practice of naturopathic medicine, light therapy, traditional chinese medicine, holistic health and other such therapies. Many alternative medical systems rely on the theory of harmony between a patient and his or her surroundings and seek to restore this harmony. Many alternative medical systems have roots that can be traced back for thousands of years.
