From ArticleWorld

Activism is the involvement in an intentional action with the purpose of causing a change in a political or social institution. In most cases this is done through direct confrontation that can be either physical or not or through different alternative means of exteriorization like educating and influencing other individuals to come to your belief or join your movement. An example of indirect activism is given by environmentalists that try to educate instead of confronting organizations that harm the environment through their actions.
