Bastard pop became popular at the turn of the millennium. Much of the music gained appeal and has been labeled as either bootleg or remixes. Much of this is very similar to how music was recreated during the classical era.

DJs
The members of any musical field that have promoted bastard would have to be disk jockeys. Many of the disk jockeys used their remake scenes skills and music blending to help popularize bastard pop.
Rap music
Much of the music that has been deemed as rap has utilized something similar to bastard pop. They would take melody samples from songs in use this as part of their own music.
Remixes
Although all bastard pop songs are considered remixes, remixes use one base song that is altered and conditioned into a new song. The key difference is that remixing does with one song that bastard pop does with multiple songs.
Bootleg albums
Bootlegs albums are a whole CD of either music never released or remixed music that is not available except on a bootleg.
Cutups
Cutups are typically humorous songs that have either an angry undertone or that are presented in a cynical fashion.
Overview
Although, bastard pop can be rude in how the original song or songs are changed, many performers of the original music don't take major offense. This is because the songs may be changed but it's also gives the original songs extra exposure and attention.
There have been a few musical performers that have taken offense though. It is these performers that will typically file lawsuits against the ones that have altered their original work.
Bastard pop is a style that in the past decade has gained popularity, but has also been the source of heated lawsuits.
