Bad News Bears

From ArticleWorld

An exterminator, a former baseball player in the minor leagues, is now an alcoholic. His career closed with a violent confrontation. He has become the baseball coach of a team of teenagers who show little chance of success. The coach would prefer to spend his time chasing females.

Plot

A washed-up alcoholic, Morris Buttermaker(Billy Bob Thornton)a former minor league baseball player has to mend his ways. After being discharged from the minor leagues for striking an umpire, he has been charged with changing his life.

An activist lawyer, Liz(Marcia Gay Harden)files a lawsuit claiming the Little League discriminates. So the Bad News Bears baseball team is created in response to that. They have to accept all kids: Black, Hispanic, American Indian... on the team.

But these kids want to play, even though they have troubled backgrounds.

Resolution

Indeed, they are the underdogs. Not very good, at first, they improve with time. He gets a good hitter, Kelly(Jeffrey Davies)and his daughter, Amanda(Sammi Kane Kraft)who is a great pitcher, to help them out.

They get to the big game. They didn’t get there the most respectable way, but they made it. Not too much sportsmanship or fair play, but lots of fun.

Production facts

1. In the original film, Morris Buttermaker was a pool cleaner.
