Angelina Jolie was born on June 4, 1975 to Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand in Los Angeles, California. Her given name, Angelina Jolie Voight, was changed after a falling out with her actor father, Jon Voight in 2004.

Early Ambitions

Jolie originally dreamed of becoming a funeral director and even now has an interest in mortuary science. However, she opted to pursue acting instead, attending Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and Beverly Hills High School, and later film school in New York but never completed her degree.

Jolie has become just as famous due to her humanitarian efforts as being an actress. Since 2001, she has worked as the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador, where her primary mission is to raise awareness of those living in third world countries. She has frequently been identified as having a passion for impoverished and orphaned children. In March of 2004, she donated money to the National Center for Refugees and Immigrant Children located in Washington D.C. Jolie was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award in October 2005.

Acting Career

Angelina Jolie has had a balance of Hollywood hits and box office flops. Some of her most popular successes include: Girl, Interrupted, Gone In Sixty Seconds and most recently, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. While she has admitted that she desires to leave acting to pursue full time humanitarian causes, she also admits that it is her acting career that supplies the income allowing her to continue traveling on behalf of the U.N. She spent much of 2005 funding and filming a documentary entitled: A Moment In The World. The premise of the film is to capture three minutes in various parts of the world succinctly. There I no release date scheduled as of yet.

Jolie also has two films: The Good Shepherd and Beowulf (where she provide the voice talent), due out in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

Relationships

Jolie has been in a few publicized relationships since 1996. Her first marriage was to Jonny Lee Miller in 1996. Jolie showed up wearing black leather pants and a white shirt sporting her husbands name in her blood on the back of the shirt. Miller, a British actor, was Jolie’s co-star in the 1995 film, Hackers. They divorced in 1999.

In May of 2000, Jolie married actor Billy Bob Thornton. Jolie and Thornton adopted a boy from Cambodia named Maddox Chivan. However they later divorced in 2003, leaving Jolie with custody of Maddox.

Angelina Jolie was accused of coming between actor couple, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston – an accusation she passionately refutes. Since Pitt and Anniston’s separation and subsequent divorce, Jolie and Pitt have been seen together, although speculations abounded as to the nature of the relationship. While the nature of the relationship is not yet confirmed, it was reported in December of 2005 that Brad Pitt sought to adopt Jolie’s 2 children (Maddox and Zahara – a child she adopted from Ethiopia). This adoption petition was indeed approved in January of 2006 and the children’s names were legally changed to Maddox Jolie-Pitt and Zahara Jolie-Pitt. It has now been reported that Jolie is pregnant with her own child with Brad Pitt.
