American cuisine gets its origins from much European cuisine. Much of the American cuisine has varieties of many European dishes. Many people who have come from Europe have claimed that American cuisine is bland.
Native american cuisine
Many American dishes actually started out as other countries dishes. It has been claimed that the only true American cuisine came from Native Americans. Some of the dishes that came from Native Americans could be called the Thanksgiving foods. Below is some of the American cuisine that came from Native Americans:
- Turkey
- Corn: this food item is what the North Americans called maize.
- Cranberries
- Squash
- Sweet potatoes
- Pumpkin pie
American cuisine that came from abroad
Most American cuisine came from somewhere else. Most modern American cuisine came from Europe. Here is some of the modern American cuisine that came out of Europe:
- Pizza: came from Italy.
- Chowder: came from England.
- Apple Pie: came from England.
- Hamburger: came from England; but most people think that hamburgers are traditional American cuisine.
American foods
Even there most likely are no true American dishes; there may be some dishes that couldn’t fit in any other category. Here are some of dishes that fit in this category:
- Salt Water Taffy: It is believed that it originated in New Jersey.
- Baked beans: It is believed that these came from Boston.
- Clam chowder: It is believed that this came from somewhere in New England.
